About me
After a career in physics teaching, I work on a consultancy basis for the Ogden Trust "making physics matter" - as Regional Rep in the NW, and also occasionally with the PTI supporting physics and science teachers. Physics is about the joy of understanding the universe at all of its scales, but for me why it matters most of all is for a better tomorrow - and the people most important for achieving zero carbon are in classrooms right now.
Physics is at the root of the causes of, evidence for and solutions to climate change; my session will be about ways of showing how classroom physics can link with this - especially important for future careers, as well as relevant to the cost of living crisis. An added bonus is that this approach can make the subject appealing to a more diverse range of young people.
Through lockdown, with Phil Furneaux of Lancaster University and the IoP Network we made a sustainability careers website http://wp.lancs.ac.uk/sustainability-physics/; since then I've put together an accredited Carbon Literacy Course for physics teachers. Just contact me if you are interested.
