About me
Dan is Head of the Gatsby Plant Science Education Programme and directs the Science and Plants for Schools project. For over 10 years Dan has developed practicals and resources for SAPS and is a dab hand at getting any plant to behave in the school lab. Dan’s background in plant science research, school science education, teacher training and CPD aids the development of our reliable, affordable, relevant and engaging practicals using plants. Dan oversees the support we offer for teachers and technicians and implemented our programme working with PGCE students and their tutors, including our popular Train the Trainer events. Part of Dan's role now includes work to boost support for a broad and balanced biology curriculum; he hasn't lost his ability for hands-on science though and can still troubleshoot any query that comes in to the SAPS team.Dan is a co-author in the 3rd edition of the ASE Teaching Secondary Biology book, and in 2018 alongside Dr Dawn Sanders authored the Plant Biology chapter of Teaching Biology in Schools -Global Research, Issues, and Trends (Routledge).
