UK Biology Competitions (UKBC) offers three competitions, which are free to schools in the UK. Schools in other countries can register as many students as they wish for a fee of £30 for each competition. Students take part online under the supervision of a teacher. None of the competitions are intended to require additional study but they can be the focus of extracurricular activities. The website has past papers for the competitions for A Level students, the British Biology Olympiad and Intermediate Biology Olympiad. These can be used to stimulate discussion and research, as well as develop problem-solving skills.
Biology Challenge is for students in Years 9&10. There are no past papers made available for this. Questions include basic biological knowledge covered in school, problem-solving and some aimed at students who have an interest in natural history.
In addition, the team of volunteers works with the School of Life Sciences at Warwick University to select and train a team of four students to represent UK at the International Biology Olympiad each summer.
